The story of Semprevino is one of three friends. Meeting at Monash University in the early 90’s, Russ, Simon and Dave spent long hours developing and refining their palates, leaving no stone unturned in their search for great wines (and beers, and whiskies...). Regrettably, university ended, but all three continued to search and share their discoveries with each other.
After successfully engaging in his chosen career as an engineer, Russ decided that the best way to find this elusive great wine was to make it himself and so went back to school. This time however, it was off to Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga to learn the dark arts and not so dark science of the winemaker. Meanwhile, Simon and Dave concerned themselves with the bigger issues of the wine industry, like “can you have red wine with fish?”.*
After finishing his course, Russ has plied his new trade in wineries on the Mornington Peninsula, Alpine Valleys, Barolo (Italy) and McLaren Vale. This experience has been harnessed to produce Semprevino’s wines; our flagship McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz, an Italian inspired Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo and our answer to New Zealand, a crisp Adelaide Hills Sauv Blanc. Simon and Dave’s input is best described with that great wine word – subtle.
*Answer: yes, but don’t let the fish drink too much.
