2022 wines shine

2022 was a great year for McLaren Vale wines. Over this year our wines have been reviewed and we soundly agree with the reviewers that these wines are super tasty and great value.

2022 Shiraz

Sellicks Hill fruit, destemmed into open-top fermenters, with 15 days on skins; matured in French oak puncheons (12.5% new) for 16 months. The concessions to modernity here are made with mindful extraction and oak use; otherwise, the feel is of a classic fulsome Vale shiraz. Those measures, though, are impactful, with depth, intensity and a certain lightness of touch making for a balanced if brooding expression, rippling with black olive, blackberry, tarry spice notes and a hint of iodine. - 92 Points - Halliday Wine Companion

A vibrant and deep, dark red in appearance. Big-time aromas of stewed plum, mulberry, dark chocolate, iodine and graphite. Dense, dark and chewy on the palate. There’s a core of really concentrated black fruits along with sweet, nutty oak, anise and cedar. The tannins are firm and chunky and the acidity brings plenty of shape to the finish - 90 Points - The Real Review

2022 Grenache

From old bush vines in Blewitt Springs; destemmed and crushed; 16 days on skins; matured in old French oak puncheons for 14 months. There’s ripeness here but varietal poise, with raspberry compote, macerated strawberries and redcurrant jelly, a dry earthiness overlaying. Although older, oak still has its say, pulling back fruitful exuberance and firming structure. - 92 Points - Halliday Wine Companion

Bright and fresh in the glass. Aromas are of red fruits, dried herbs, violets, sweet spice and briar. The flavours are mid-weight, crunchy and youthful. Red and blue fruits are all at play, along with textured, savoury tannins and snappy acidity. Complex, long and layered on the finish - 91 Points - The Real Review

Awarded Silver medal at 2024 Adelaide Wine Show.

2022 Sangiovese Cabernet

ich ruby red colour. Heady nose of cherry preserve and cedar shavings. A full bodied and full throttle red, loaded with ripe dark fruits, wood shavings and black olive savouries. Tannins are equally full and firm. All that builds to a powerful and long finish, a wine that demands your attention and will work well with a serious winter meal - 94 Points - The Real Review

Sellicks Hill sangiovese (75%) and cabernet sauvignon (25%), destemmed to open-top fermenters, 18 days’ total time on skins, blended prior to barrel maturation, then matured in old French puncheons for 14 months. A Vale take on a common Super Tuscan pairing. Here, red and dark cherries meld with mulberry and cassis, dried bay leaf, briar patch, rocky iron notes and dried hardy Mediterranean herbs. Sangiovese tannins give salivating grip from front to back. Good drinking, but made for the table. - 91 points - Halliday Wine Companion
